IMPAKT App-Nurses using Digital Technology for Evaluation of Patient Care

Abstract

Introduction
Person-centredness is fundamental to ensuring safe and effective healthcare delivery. Research has identified eight key performance indicators (KPIs) that encapsulate the essence of person-centred care. The iMPAKT App aids in the implementation and measurement of these KPIs by generating data that nursing teams can use to improve the care experience for patients, families, and staff.
Main Body
The iMPAKT App serves as a comprehensive tool designed to implement and measure person-centredness within nursing environments by privileging the patient voice. Over a six-week period, it employs four assessment tools – patient/carer surveys, patient stories, document reviews and observations. By utilising the App, its measurement capabilities, and the data it generates, nurses can significantly improve the delivery of person-centred care while continuously refining their professional practice. The adoption of this App underscores our commitment to fostering work environments that prioritise patients’ needs, providing insights into areas for improvement while recognising the strengths of our nursing teams. Furthermore, the App has demonstrated efficacy in collecting patient experience data pertinent to the KPIs, generating reports that empower clinical teams to enhance person-centred practices while valuing the contribution of nurses to patient care.
The organisational uptake of the App has positively impacted leadership development and workplace culture by highlighting the vital and valuable role of nurses in patient care. Our commitment to developing and supporting the clinical nurses to be iMPAKT Leads has been instrumental in the successful implementation of the program, which is already transforming healthcare delivery in 26 clinical units across a tertiary level hospital.
Conclusion
Using the iMPAKT data and the report it generates serves as a critical benchmark for assessing and implementing person-centredness. By capturing and utilising data that is meaningful to nursing teams in a cyclical, action orientated approach, we have achieved notable improvements in person-centred practices.
