The Results, Post Implementation of Sip Til Send
8:00 AM - 8:40 AMAbstract
In July 2024 Sip Til Send was launched at Cairns Hospital. Sip Til Send is an emerging practice to reduce fluid fasting duration for patients awaiting a procedure requiring an anaesthetic.
Audit data was collected prior to the launch and in the months following the launch. Comparisons have been made of fluid fasting times in adults and children prior to Sip Til Send and post implementation. One of the concerns of implementing Sip Til Send is the increased risk of aspiration. Audit data will compare the rate of aspiration prior to implementation and post implementation.
Nursing and medical staff were surveyed four months post the launch of Sip Til Send and satisfaction data collected. Patients were surveyed and satisfaction data was also collected.
The poster will provide an overview of the results of the audit data which will demonstrate Sip Til Send reduces fluid fasting times, improves patient satisfaction with the fasting process prior to anaesthetic, does not increase the risk of aspiration and nursing and medical staff are satisfied with Sip Til Send.
