Adjunct Professor Veronica Casey AM is an esteemed nursing and midwifery leader with over 40 years’ experience spanning clinical leadership, organisational culture reform, quality improvement and nursing excellence.
A Registered Nurse and Midwife, she holds a Bachelor of Nursing, a Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing (Geriatric), and a Master of Nursing Leadership. She is a Fellow of the Australian College of Nursing and a member of the Australian College of Midwives and the Association of Queensland Nurse Leaders.
Adjunct Professor Casey has been a member of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) since 2015, appointed Chair in 2020 and reappointed for a further three-year term in 2023. She previously served on the Queensland Board of the NMBA from 2010 to 2015. Internationally, she was an inaugural International Magnet Commissioner for the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) from 2010 to 2017.
During her time as Executive Director of Nursing and Midwifery at Metro South Health and Princess Alexandra Hospital, she led major programs that transformed organisational culture, including three Magnet redesignations and the introduction of the Pathway to Excellence program across Metro South.
Her contribution to the profession has been recognised through multiple awards, including the HRH Princess Muna Al-Hussein Award for international nursing contribution (2011), the QUT Outstanding Alumni Award, Faculty of Health (2018), her appointment as a Member of the Order of Australia (2019), and her Honorary Doctorate QUT awarded in 2024.
Renowned for her compassion, leadership and commitment to person-centred care, Adjunct Professor Casey continues to champion safe, high-quality nursing and midwifery practice across Australia.
